Work with us

SurreySave would not exist without the support of the funders named below.

SurreySave will be prioritising its work by delivering services in the areas for which we have received funding. If you would like to support Surrey's newest mutual, please get in touch.

Local authorities

Local councils may wish to support the credit union as a means to recession proof local economies. Credit unions can stimulate growth by making available lending opportunities for consumers and entrepreneurs. There are proven benefits for those councils which are also social landlords.

Delivering a credit union service in your neighbourhood can offer a strategic fit with other work the authority may be doing to promote social inclusion and support local communities to access services.

The New Local Government Network have produced a report called Circling the Loan Sharks which reviews the benefits of local councils working with a credit union. ClickDownload NLGN Circling the Loan Sharks (1949.5kb)

SurreySave has funding agreements in place with Guildford Borough Council, Woking Borough Council and Waverley Borough Council. If you represent a local council and would like to support SurreySave, please contact us.

Social landlords

Up to three quarters of people facing financial exclusion live in social housing. Supporting the credit union will enable better access to affordable credit and other financial services in an environment that promotes a culture of saving.

Increasing financial inclusion can bring significant business benefits for housing providers through reductions in rent arrears, resulting in greater cash flow and reduced financial write off.

Transact have produced a report called Reaping the Benefits which reviews the financial and social benefits of working with credit unions. ClickDownload Reaping the Benefits (1516.9kb).

SurreySave has funding agreements in place with Orbit South, Mole Valley, Southern Housing, Rosebery, Accent Peerless and First Wessex. If you represent a local council and would like to support SurreySave, please contact us.

Private sector companies

Businesses can support the credit union in a number of ways – by contributing to our operating costs, sharing their expertise with us through staff volunteering or setting up a more formal secondment / apprenticeship arrangement, or by becoming a corporate member and taking up deferred shares.

Legal and General made a contribution to the operating costs of the credit union enabling us to produce marketing materials and plan for the first year of business.  To reciprocate we can provide payroll deduction services to staff.
