Support the credit union

Surrey Save Credit Union - Support usThere is a dedicated team of volunteers and professionals working hard to make SurreySave - the credit union for the whole community - become reality in 2011.

So that this can happen we need more than 500 people to show their support so SurreySave can be approved by the Financial Services Authority.

Please take a few moments to complete our pledge form.

If you want to get involved with the group setting up the credit union, please contact us.

Local councils may wish to support the credit union as a means to recession proof local economies. Credit unions can stimulate growth by making available lending opportunities for consumers and entrepreneurs.

Delivering a credit union service in your neighbourhood can offer a strategic fit with other work the authority may be doing to promote social inclusion and support local communities to access services.

The New Local Government Network have produced a report called 'Circling the Loan Sharks' which reviews the benefits of working with a credit union. (.pdf, 2.5mb)

Up to three quarters of people facing financial exclusion live in social housing.  Supporting the credit union will enable better access to affordable credit and other financial services in an environment that promotes a culture of saving.

Increasing financial inclusion can bring significant business benefits for housing providers through reductions in rent arrears, resulting in greater cash flow and reduced financial write off.

Transact have produced 'Making the Link' which reviews the financial and social benefits of working with credit unions.
